Who doesn’t love the taste of coconut? One of life’s simple pleasures, organic coconut flakes are so delicious that it’s tempting to eat them all by themselves.
If you’re looking to buy flaked coconut, you may think that there’s no difference between the coconut you buy from your local grocery store and Wildly Organic’s offering. However, our family-owned company takes pride in sourcing and processing our coconut in the most responsible way possible. The result is a dried coconut that has a light, crisp texture that’s melt-in-your-mouth delicious.
How Is Our Unsweetened Dried Coconut Created?
We worked for a great length of time to develop a natural, dried coconut that we could still call "raw." We are excited to offer low-temperature, dried coconut with an absolutely delectable taste.
We start with wild coconuts. The coconut is removed from the shells and washed in pure, filtered water (no chlorine is present). The coconut is then shredded and slowly dehydrated at 98.6°F (37°C). The resulting shredded, raw flaked coconut tastes great, has a wonderful texture and contains the nutrients found in coconut. Desiccating coconut at a lower temperature preserves the coconut’s pure flavor.
Most shredded, dried coconut available online and in grocery stores is dried at higher temperatures which makes it taste like toasted coconut instead of pure coconut. Chlorinated water is used to clean and sterilize the coconuts once they are opened and peeled. The coconut meat is grated, often lightly pressed to remove some of the milk (moisture) and then it is dried in huge ovens at temperatures between 170°-180°F (76°-82°C). Much of the shredded coconut sold in grocery stores comes from this dried coconut soaked in corn syrup, propylene glycol, and sodium metabisulfite to preserve it.
There is a huge difference between raw coconut flakes and most store-bought sweetened dried coconut. Take a look at the ingredient list of our organic coconut and you’ll find only one ingredient: organic coconut. That’s the Wildly Organic difference!
How Can You Use Our Organic Coconut Flakes?
Wildly Organic’s flaked coconut is about the size of white rice. Many people find these work well for desserts, such as macaroons, coatings, and cookies. They can also be used in place of large coconut shreds. True coconut lovers know it goes well with chocolate, too. This substitute works in most recipes, especially if you want a more substantial coconut texture and flavor, but do not want too much chewiness.
Our flaked coconut is great in trail mixes, numerous raw desserts, and cookies, or great to snack on all by itself. You can add it to yogurt, smoothies, cereal, and oatmeal too. However you end up using your flakes, you’ll fall in love with their deliciously pure flavor.
We also offer raw, unsweetened dehydrated coconut in fine and small sizes, as well as coconut chips. We even have unsweetened dried coconut available in larger quantities if you need it. If you have any questions about our coconut products, please contact us today so we can help.
