How is Our Organic, Unrefined Coconut Oil Made?

Our organic, cold-pressed coconut oil is made like no other. It’s cold-pressed from freshly dried white coconut flesh. Below is the process we use to produce our premium cold-press coconut oil:

  1. The fresh coconuts are opened and grated.
  2. We then dehydrate the grated coconut at low temperatures, drying the coconut meat.
  3. The dried coconut meat is then "pressed" to yield a delicious oil that contains many of the nutrients and flavors of the fresh coconut.
  4. The final step is to clarify the oil to ensure you receive the best product. We don't use chemicals or heat in any stage of the extraction process.

A Constantly Evolving Process

The process for manufacturing virgin coconut oil that’s cold-pressed has undergone many changes and innovations through the years. Cold-pressed coconut oils, though they have the highest yield of any production method, often have a toasted coconut flavor due to high heat or become rancid-tasting due to oxidized proteins remaining in the oil.

The best manufacturing technique — and the one we use at Wildly Organic — produces the best coconut flavor. It allows for the production of coconut oil that’s unrefined, virgin, and raw.

How to Choose a Virgin Coconut Oil

The choice between our unrefined, organic, cold-pressed coconut oils is very individual, but we thought we’d share some general observations to help you select the perfect cold-press coconut oil.

Similarities Between the Oils

Our organic, cold-pressed coconut oil and Centrifuge Extracted Extra Virgin Coconut Oil both offer excellent freshness, very low moisture content, and a long shelf life. The cold-pressed variety delivers a rich coconut flavor and aroma, while the centrifuge-extracted version provides a milder coconut taste for those seeking a more subtle profile.

Different Oils for Different Preferences

While both virgin coconut oils are good choices for cooking, baking, sautéing, and stir-frying, as well as for personal care and beauty products, some people may prefer one oil over the other for different applications. For those who want the rich taste and aroma of coconut in their cooking and baking, we recommend our cold-pressed coconut oil. For those who want a light, delicate flavor and aroma of coconut, we recommend the centrifugally extracted option. Frequent users of coconut products for personal care and beauty purposes tell us that they prefer centrifuge-extracted because it's so light and delicate on their skin and hair.

Note:

Please note that your virgin coconut oil that’s been cold-pressed may be in a liquid or solid form when it arrives. Coconut oil has a melting point of 76 degrees Fahrenheit and will solidify once it cools down again. This phenomenon is normal and does not qualify the product for a return or refund.

Wildly Organic Cold Pressed Coconut Oil arrives ready to use in 14-fluid-ounce, 28-fluid-ounce, and 64-fluid-ounce glass jars with metal lids. 1-gallon and 5-gallon come in plastic pails. Pail openers are highly recommended for easy access.

What Is Virgin Coconut Oil (Cold-Pressed) Good For?

Virgin oils are rich in nutrients, such as medium-chain fatty acids, lauric acid, vitamin E, and polyphenols, which support your health in many ways. You can use it as a moisturizing body and hair oil, an antibacterial topical solution, or a general cooking oil.

What Is the Difference Between Coconut Oil and Cold-Pressed Coconut Oil?

Unlike other coconut oils, which are extracted using heat or chemical treatments, unrefined cold-pressed coconut oil is extracted directly from the dehydrated coconut meat using a machine, resulting in better taste and nutritional value.

Can I Use Cold-Press Coconut Oil on My Hair and Skin?

Yes, you can use our organic, cold-pressed coconut oil on your hair and skin to reap its many benefits. However, virgin cold-pressed oils typically have a strong flavor and aroma, which may be a little overwhelming for some people. If you need something subtle, centrifuge-extracted coconut oil may be a better choice.

Is Cold-Press Coconut Oil Good for Cooking?

Cold-pressed virgin coconut oil is an excellent choice for cooking dishes with a pronounced coconut flavor and aroma, such as Gluten-Free Goji Berry Granola and Grain-Free Peanut Butter Brownie Bars. You can even add our organic, unrefined coconut oil to your morning cup of coffee!
