A Nutritious Gift From Minnesota

This Minnesota-cultivated wild rice needs precise conditions to grow. The water must be at a certain level. It must flow slightly, but not so much that it uproots the plants. The bottom of the lake must have rich humus, and the temperatures need to be COLD!

This organic wild rice is actually an aquatic grass with large seed heads. Once it’s cultivated and harvested, the grains are dried using a heated wood fire. This “wood parching” method (as opposed to the propane method) gives the wild rice a really nutty flavor and heavenly aroma. This method helps retain more of the natural moisture, which makes a fluffier and better-tasting rice that cooks faster.
