Is there anything better than a bowl full of ice cream? There sure is.. it’s one covered in chocolate! This salted chocolate magic shell takes the inspiration of a store-bought version but is uses whole food ingredients and is so simple to make at home.

Whip up a batch of this homemade chocolate magic shell and store it in the fridge for “ice cream emergencies” or gobble it all up right away.

Salted Chocolate Magic Shell Recipe

To stay cool in the warmer months, having ice cream on hand is crucial. And this chocolate topping that hardens into a crunchy, candy like state makes it even better.

With only three ingredients, this magic shell can be whipped up in under five minutes and enjoyed right away!

Plus, this salted chocolate shell has no added sugars! The recipe uses squares of dark chocolate which are often dairy free, making this a great allergy friendly option (opt for a dairy free ice cream to pair it on). Plus, most dark chocolate (85% and higher) contains minimal ingredients. No additives here!

Not only is the chocolate topping delicious, but kids love it too. Wildly Organic Centrifuge Extracted Coconut Oil adds good fats to the equation but is also the reason that the shell is magic!

At room temperature or heated, coconut oil melts. However, once the coconut oil is cold, it hardens almost instantaneously. So, melting the mixture before pouring it onto something cold gives it a bit of magic appeal!

While many people may not be accustomed to the tart taste of dark chocolate, once it’s paired with the ice cream it becomes sweeter- and gives a nice contrast between the two. Plus, salted chocolate just steps it up a notch with flavor.

You can use this magic salted chocolate shell on any ice cream you wish (and in a bowl or a cone!) but the chocolate and vanilla combination will always be a classic.

This recipe makes roughly 1/3 cup of chocolate magic shell. If you don’t use it all, simple store it in the fridge in a sealed container. Keep in mind, it will harden during storage in the refrigerator. However, when you’re ready to use it, just heat it up and pour on your ice cream all over again!
