DIY Homemade Chocolate Lip Balm

Diy Homemade Chocolate lip balm
Chocolate lip balm sounds so decadent, doesn't it? To tell you the truth, it is! But even though it's quite luxurious and unique, it's super simple to make. All you need is a few simple ingredients to do it yourself!

DIY Homemade Chocolate Lip Balm

With only four ingredients, you'll whip this DIY homemade chocolate lip balm up in no time. Make it for yourself or double the recipe and share it with friends. It would make a great gift! The chocolate flavor of this lip balm comes from two sources:
  1. Cacao butter
  2. Cacao powder
A favorite natural skincare ingredient, cacao butter is extremely emollient, meaning it moisturizes very well. It's great to keep on hand for all manner of homemade products, such as lip balm, body butter, whipped body scrubs, lotion bars, and more. Cacao butter is also a wonderful real food ingredient and makes a great addition to coffee and hot chocolate. It's excellent for creating non-dairy chocolate chips and frostings too. As you know, cacao powder makes many delicious chocolate treats, but it can also be featured in a few natural body care products as well. Besides this lip balm, you can add a sprinkling to homemade body butter for a slightly tinted moisturizer, it's also the perfect addition to homemade dry shampoo for dark hair. For this recipe, I use the non-fermented cacao powder. Since the fermented cacao is a little more bitter, I feel the flavor is better for a lip balm with the non-fermented variety. Want to learn more about the difference between fermented and non-fermented cacao powder? See this post. This chocolate lip balm recipe has a great flavor all on its own, but feel free to further customize it by adding a few drops of peppermint or sweet orange essential oil for a flavorful twist. Coconut oil is another important ingredient in this recipe as it aids in moisturizing and softening the lips. Wildly Organic has a number of coconut oil varieties to choose from. All would work well in this recipe. If you prefer to cut down on any coconut scent or flavor, use refined coconut oil.

Let's Make Chocolate Lip Balm!

All you need is: You will also need 5 lip balm tubes. Place coconut oil, cacao butter, and beeswax in the top of a double boiler. Warm over low heat until melted. Once melted, add cacao powder and whisk to combine. Once there are no lumps present, remove from heat. Let cool for 1-2 minutes, before adding vitamin E and essential oils (if using). Pour into lip balm tubes. Let cool completely before closing with lids.
