Healthy Charcuterie Board
Hosting a party this fall and winter season and looking for something delicious but healthy for your guests? This Healthy Charcuterie Board Recipe is perfect for your weekend get together with friends. It is also a great appetizer for Thanksgiving and Christmas parties.
Charcuterie boards are great entertaining foods, with minimum preparation. It gives you time to enjoy the party and get to know your guests better. Thanks to Wildly Organic products, I created a beautiful, delicious, organic, and healthy Charcuterie Board that we shared with new friends.
Healthy Charcuterie Board Ingredients
An outstanding Charcuterie Board has different kinds of textures and flavors. A great board contains a variety of cheeses, cured meats, nuts and seeds, dried and fresh fruit, crackers, chocolate, and spreads and dips.
Cheese
There are so many types of cheese to choose from. Using a variety of textures (soft, hard, semi-hard), taste, type (cow, goat, sheep) and color, will give several options to your guests. Try buying organic raw cheese when possible. Great choices are mozzarella, gouda, parmesan, soft goat cheese, and cheddar.
Cured Meats
Nitrate-free cured meats are a great healthy alternative to regular cured meats. They come in a variety of types also. Aim to use 2-3 types of meats on your boards. Great options are prosciutto, hard salami, pepperoni, and ham.
Nuts and seeds
For my Charcuterie board, I used a variety of Wildly Organic certified-organic raw nuts. They are perfect for a cheese board. I love Wildly Organic nuts, not only because they are delicious, but they are also minimally processed, preserving their healthy properties. Most of the nuts are “activated” by soaking and drying at low temperature. This process allows for the phytic acid to be released, while keeping all the minerals and vitamins intact. For your Charcuterie board, pick a variety of nuts to provide textures and tastes, while having the added benefit of providing multiple vitamins and minerals. You can choose between walnuts, almonds, cashews, brazil nuts, pecans, and pistachios. You can scatter directly onto the board or place in small bowls.
Dried and fresh fruit
Fruit is a great addition to a cheese plate. For my board, I used Wildly Organic Dried Mangoes and Wildly Organic Goji Berries. I loved the addition of these two dried fruits. They paired really well with the meats, cheeses, and nuts on the board. In addition, they are very healthy and delicious. Goji berries are packed with nutrients and are a unique add-on to a charcuterie board. I also liked to use fresh fruit, such as grapes, orange slices, and apples. Other dried and fresh fruit suggestions are dried apricots, dried cranberries, pomegranate, fresh pineapple, and kiwi.
Crackers
Crackers or small pieces of bread go well with the cheese and meat. To keep it allergy-friendly, try to have a gluten-free option for those guests who need it. A variety of artisan crackers are the best to use.
Chocolate
Chocolate is not a must for a charcuterie board, but it does offer a nice touch, especially for a special occasion. Try to have good, quality chocolate, possibly both dark and sweet.
Spreads and dips
For spreads and dips you can use jams, preserves, marmalade, and a great nut butter. Use small bowls from which to sample the spreads. I really like the Wildly Organic Almond Pecan Butter. It is creamy and delicious and a great combination of flavors.
All the ingredients might be overwhelming at first. However, once you have them all, it is so easy and fast to get the board ready for your guests. Also, it is so fun to put together a charcuterie board. You can showcase your style. Besides, there is no cleaning dishes or long cooking hours, giving you time to enjoy your guests.
