Did you know you can use nuts as a topping to make a gluten-free berry crumble? You certainly can (and should)! The addition of Wildly Organic Walnuts and Wildly Organic Pecans really takes your typical berry crumble to a whole new level. Adding texture, nutrition and flavor, using Wildly Organic nuts is so much better than the regular oat and flour topping you find on most crumbles and crisps. Add in some Wildly Organic Coconut Chips, and you won’t want to make crumble any other way. Even if you don’t need to eat gluten-free for health reasons, you’ll want to try this topping just for the flavor alone!

For this summer version, I use a mix of strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries, but other berries could work too. The recipe below lists 4 cups of berries; if you want exact measurements, use 1-1/2 cups strawberries, 1-1/2 cups raspberries, and 1 cup blueberries. The result was delicious, but feel free to adjust the amount of each type of berry to your liking.

Many summer fruits could also be added to create delicious combinations. From strawberries and nectarines, to peaches paired with raspberries, or even blackberries and cherries. The possibilities are endless!

Even though this berry crumble was created with summer in mind, it’s easy to adapt for fall or winter by substituting different fruits and adding extra spices. Think apples and cinnamon for fall or orange cranberry for winter! Or maybe even our paleo apple-cranberry crisp?

The whole family will love this gluten-free berry crumble. You can serve this gluten-free berry crumble hot or cold. Take it to an outdoor picnic or serve fresh from the oven at home (after letting it sit for 20 minutes to set of course).

Pair with ice cream (or whipped cream with a little added vanilla) to make it extra special. This creamy 5-ingredient coconut milk ice cream would be so delicious on top!

did call this a dessert, but truthfully, it’s nice for breakfast as well! Since the added sweetener is fairly minimal, it makes a refreshing morning treat. It’s great paired with Greek yogurt (plain or vanilla) and would be beautiful for a brunch with friends and family! Who wouldn’t want to dig in to a gluten-free berry crumble for breakfast?

Tips for Making Gluten-Free Berry Crumble

  • This recipe has not been tested without dairy, but you can easily replace the butter with coconut oil or non-dairy butter to make it dairy-free and vegan.
  • The purpose of the arrowroot powder is to help thicken the berry filling. If you do not have arrowroot powder, you can also use cornstarch in this recipe.
  • Make sure to let the berry crumble to sit for 20 minutes after removing from the oven to let it set properly. If not, the filling may be runny and not as appealing on your plate.
  • You can store leftovers in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Just reheat and enjoy!
