Dairy-Free Hot Chocolate Eggnog {Vegan, Egg-Free}
Holiday season is upon us! December is a magical time with family traditions, Christmas lights and carols, gifts, and festive meals; anticipation is in the air. One of the treats my children anticipate during this time is eggnog. Eggnog is a festive drink originally made from eggs, cream, sugar, nutmeg, and other spices. However, since we have to take allergies into consideration, ever year I try to make a dairy-free, egg-free, and refined-sugar-free version. We love a fun twist to the original homemade eggnog recipe with a dairy-free chocolate eggnog made with Wildly Organic Hot Chocolate Mix. It's a creamy and delicious vegan hot chocolate eggnog.
Ingredients you need to make this dairy-free hot chocolate eggnog
Wildly Organic Hot Chocolate Mix – I love this hot chocolate mix because of its organic and clean ingredients. It contains only three ingredients: Fair trade, raw, organic, and fermented cacao powder, organic coconut milk powder, and organic coconut sap sugar. It makes me feel good knowing that my kids can enjoy hot chocolate free of allergens that is also delicious, healthy, and great for their growing bodies.
Wildly Organic Coconut Milk Powder – For the milk base of the eggnog, I used the Wildly Organic Coconut Milk Powder. It’s completely dairy-free and made with organic ingredients. This coconut milk powder can be used anytime a recipe calls for coconut milk and cream. It’s great to use in coffee, smoothies, in curries and Thai food. I really like that since it is in powder form, it has a long shelf life and it will not spoil in the fridge if I don’t get to use it all at the same time. For my eggnog recipe, it offered a great creamy consistency that blended well with the hot chocolate mix.
Nutmeg – This is the key ingredient to making great eggnog. It is a strong spice and can be overpowering if too much is used.
Vanilla – I love to use vanilla for baking and sweet treats like this eggnog. It enhances all of the flavors in the eggnog, blending very well with the chocolate, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
Cinnamon — This is a must for holiday desserts and treats. It really gives the eggnog that Christmas feel.
Wildly Organic Coconut Syrup – My family just loves this coconut syrup. It has a caramel-like taste that is amazing in all the recipes. It’s thick, rich, and delicious. You can use it in place of sugar, honey, maple syrup, or molasses. I love to use it in the eggnog recipe; it really brought a great sweet caramel flavor to the overall drink.
