We’ve talked before about why Himalayan salt is so crazy good for you (and your skin!). This Himalayan salt scrub amps up the skin benefit even more with Vitamin C rich herbs. It’s simple to make, smells amazing, and makes perfect gifts for the holidays or a spa night with the girls.
How to Make a DIY Vitamin C Salt Scrub
Once you see how easy it is to make your own DIY Vitamin C Salt Scrub you’ll always keep it in your house! A few simple ingredients are all it takes to get started! Wildly Organic Pink Himalayan Salt is the base of this Vitamin C Salt Scrub combined Wildly Organic Cold Pressed Coconut Oil, Wildly Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Camu Camu powder, and essential oils.
The Benefits of Himalayan Salt for Skin
Not all salts are created equal. Himalayan salt contains about 2% trace minerals our bodies need to be healthy. Sea salt also has trace minerals, but unfortunately, it comes from increasingly contaminated oceans. Himalayan salt is mined from reserves deep in the earth, so it doesn’t have the same concerns for heavy metal contamination that other salts do.
Wildly Organic Pink Himalayan Salt is high quality and contains no anti-caking or free-flowing additives, it’s just pure unrefined “raw” salt — perfect for everything from cooking and baking to this DIY salt scrub!
Why Use a Vitamin C Salt Scrub?
According to the American Academy of Dermatologists, the top 18 to 23 layers of our skin is made up of dead skin cells. A scrub helps speed up the turnover process, revealing the fresh, smooth skin underneath. It’s best to use a salt scrub only once or twice a week, as a salt scrub can be too harsh if used on the skin daily. I prefer to use salt scrubs on the body, and stick to gentler sugar scrubs for the face.
Using a scrub helps stimulate the lymphatic system to promote cleansing. A salt scrub will also help slough off dead skin cells to reduce the appearance of cellulite and wrinkles.
Why Vitamin C is Awesome for Skin
This isn’t your normal salt scrub; it has the added benefits of vitamin C. Camu Camu powder which has a whopping 2,280% of our daily value of vitamin C per tablespoon.
Vitamin C helps stimulate collagen production in the skin to reduce wrinkles and keep us looking young. In one study, vitamin C applied to the skin for 12 weeks decreased wrinkles, made skin appear smoother, increased collagen production and reversed age-related structural changes in the skin.
This nutrient also helps protect against UV damage caused by the sun, though it’s not a sunscreen. Research has indicated that applying vitamin C to the skin may offer even more sun protection than ingesting it alone.
Use a Carrier Oil
It’s recommended to moisturize after exfoliating to prevent skin damage. This scrub contains skin nourishing virgin coconut oil for an all in one pampering experience that will exfoliate, moisturize and nourish. Just be careful using it in the shower, as it can make the floor slick!
Since virgin coconut oil is too thick to use on its own, I’ve also included a liquid carrier oil in this recipe. If you’re wondering which carrier oil to use, I’ve got you covered with a few options depending on your skin type:
- Olive oil is great for dry or mature skin (try high quality Wildly Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil)
- Sweet almond is good for most skin types and is lighter than olive oil
- Grapeseed oil is the lightest option and great for oily prone skin
