Easy Homemade Whipped Cream Recipe

I’ll tell you how I know this. I started cutting down on processed foods and making my own whipped cream a while ago and got hooked. But, to be honest, I still sometimes cheat and would eat the processed, store-bought whipped cream. Over time, I’ve found that it’s really hard to ignore the fake flavor that conventional whipped cream adds to dessert! I guess I should be thankful for that flavor because it helps me stick to real food.

Whipped cream really can make or break a dessert! Why? The taste and ingredients are incredibly different in store-bought versus homemade whipped cream. Store-bought whipped cream is full of oils, refined sugar, artificial thickeners, and preservatives! There’s hardly any cream in there.

For example, a popular store-bought whipped cream product contains hydrogenated vegetable oil, corn syrup, artificial flavor, and sodium polyphosphate- an emulsifier which EWG has linked to an increased risk for cardiovascular disease. (source)

My easy homemade whipped cream is made with a few basic ingredients and is sweetened with Wildly Organic Coconut Sugar. You can also use Wildly Organic Coconut Syrup if you prefer. Either way, you have a naturally sweetened whipped cream topping perfect for any occasion. My favorite uses for homemade whipped cream include using it as a topping for hot chocolate and lattes, with ice cream, on homemade cherry chocolate cake, and, you know, just eat it straight out of the bowl!

With this real food version of a traditional dessert topping, you’ll never want to buy store-bought whipped cream again! Trust me, it’s so easy to learn to make your own homemade whipped cream instead! You’ll be able to wow guests with an easy, elegant, moderately healthy dessert topping that tastes amazing.

    Instructions
    1. Pour heavy whipping cream into a medium bowl with tall sides to help avoid a mess.
    2. Blend with either a handheld blender or an immersion blender with the whisk attachment for 1-2 minutes, until stiff peaks begin to form.
    3. Add vanilla, salt, and sweetener and mix until blended.
    4. If you would like to make a chocolate version, add cacao powder before blending.
    5. Serve immediately or store in the fridge for up to five days, blending again before use if needed.
    Recipe Notes

    Notes:

    1. This recipe goes a little faster if you chill the whisk and bowl in the freezer for about 10 minutes before adding the cream. But it’s not a necessary step.
    2. To make this vegan, swap the heavy whipping cream for one cup of full-fat coconut milk that has been refrigerated overnight. Don’t shake the can before you open it, and only use the solid portion of the coconut milk, leaving the rest for smoothies or drinking.
    3. With this recipe, you can also feel free to sweeten to taste. I find that I prefer my whipped cream more or less sweet depending on the dessert I’m using it with.
